Lower back pain is arguably the most common medical complaint and it’s causes are varied so the correct diagnosis is imperative.  Our neurosurgeons will utilize their skill, experience and various tests to complete a thorough physical and medical exam to best diagnose the cause of your pain.

Types of pain

  • Mechanical: pain may be dull, sharp, chronic or acute and often activated by movement.
  • Referred: pain that starts in one area but moves to another.
  • Radicular: pain follows the line of the nerve.

Neuro-skeletal Causes

  • Herniated disc: ruptured disc.
  • Spinal Stenosis: narrowing of spinal canal.
  • Cauda Equina Syndrome: compression and inflammation of the bundle of nerves in the lower section of the spinal cord.
  • Osteomyelitis: inflammation process of the bone and it’s structures.
  • Malignant tumor: both primary and secondary tumors.
